Niklas Bergius – Track 5

A track from around 1999, which I dug out from the archives… The only track possibly enjoyable out of nine on the CD. I’m publishing it as a historical document. The track was created with Sonic Foundy’s Acid, and is basically a bunch of layered chopped up beats, spiced with a minimal amount of non-beat samples. Enjoy?

Versuz – This Will Feel
Thursday October 05th 2006, 21:52

Made a rather long time ago, this is a straightforward drum & bass track built on a couple of samples from the movie The Matrix. I think the piano is sampled from a Miles record, although I’d have to do a bit of listening to verify that. All in all, it’s nice, but not revolutionary – you’ll find reversed and pitched snares, a rather braindead bass line and other things you’re used to if you listen to this kind of music. I still enjoy listening to it, though.

Versuz is the name I used, and occasionally still use, for beat-based music. That’s where I started out, and am coming back to at the moment. I’ve spent more than five years focused on creating 15-minute ambient masterpieces, which has resulted in two or three good tracks – in order to keep up a certain level of productivity, I’m now decided to accept three-minute techno experiments as being just as good as 15 minute ambient soundscapes. Hopefully I’ll feel confident enough about some of those experiments to publish them here.

Nrthoid – Montage 02

This is an experiment, and not what you’d call production quality. Recorded live using one Technics SL-1210MK2, a bunch of library music LPs and a couple of effects in Reaktor. One shot, and this is it. By using the left and right channels from the Technics separately, I was able to preview the tracks I was about to sample – I didn’t have a mixer at the time. A rather stressful situation, but the result is pretty relaxing. Stay away if you’re allergic to shapeless ambient.

The Bergius Process

I’m going to transfer the contents of my photo blog to this location, in chronological order. I’m also adopting the name of my photo blog, which I think suits this site much better: The Bergius Process. The photo blog will be closed down as soon as its content has been moved. I will also adopt the concept behind that blog, which is to have no description of posted photos. They should speak for themselves. The title will simply be the date I posted the photo.

The Civilized Electrons - Unidentified Walking Object

The Civilized Electrons is the most conceptually solid of my musical projects. Since the turn of the millennium, my mind has been set on creating space-influenced ambient/technoid music. One of the few good tracks I’ve managed to produce in the 00s, Unidentfied Walking Object was produced exclusively for the multi-media art pack ACiD #100. I think it’s pretty good, to be quite honest – give me a shout if you agree!

IK+ - Ben Broth (low quality mastering)
Thursday August 17th 2006, 21:11

As the title imples, the mastering is not a work of art on this one. Created for a snowboard movie (I think, I never got to see the context in which this track was featured) by me and my friends Daniel and Christophe, this is an exploration into library music samples, pretty good scratching techniques and great Swedish workout LP samples. This version was rescued from scraps found after the final master was lost. Composition by all of us, Scratching by Christophe, drum programming (at times rather confused) by me.

Busta Rhymes - Woo Hah (Civilized Remix)
Thursday August 17th 2006, 20:20

I’ll kick off the music section with an unauthorized remix of Busta Rhyme’s Woo Hah. This was an experiment, to see what one could do with the original track as the only sample source. You’ll notice that the lyrics have been heavily filtered – the reason is simply that I had to remove the original music in some way. Oh, and if you’re representing Mr. Rhymes and are concerned about the copyright, please notify me and I’ll remove the track – I publish this under the assumption that it’s OK to remix things, just like the hip-hop movement owes all its progress to the use of unauthorized samples :).
